Grace & Madelene's Birthday
We had such a lovely time meeting up again, and this time to
celebrate Grace and Madshen's birthday! Sometimes I find it so
amazing knowing our friendships have lasted thus far. Now we
even have a new addition to our photos - my son!
We had the celebration at Grace's house, and it was the first time her parents saw Yongren. Auntie was great at baby sitting him and he sure had a comfortable time sleeping in her arms!

Nope, not revealing her age! It was a great time spent celebrating her birthday! I still remember how Lydia first brought her to our west cell group last year... and now she is so much a part of us. Birthday boys Terence and Jason were not able to attend, but we managed to sing the birthday song to Terence through the handphone!

Visit from 4E5 (graduating formclass of 2004)
What words can describe my feelings when I saw these students who once-upon-a-time were full of mischief and yet working very hard for their O levels? It was indeed wonderful to see them again. This year they will turn 18, and a few of them will be entering NS next year. It was interesting to find out who is dating who - rather hard to believe! Well, I do wish all of them a fruitful and meaningful life in whatever route they choose in the future.

Family Camp 2006
I have been looking forward to this camp and it has come and gone. Having a little baby during the camp has proved to be a little more hectic! Nonetheless, I thank my Lord for this wonderful time with friends in church, for fellowship, for the messages being preached by John Hutchinson (whatever I could listen to!), for a safe journey to and fro. Most of all, I'm filled with joy that my friend Audrie made it for the camp to be with the church people and to listen to the messages. May the Lord continue to do His good work in our lives.
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
This year, we stayed with Adrian, Janice and Jerome in the same apartment. I'm glad that I got to know this family better! It was great for Yongren too as there were more people who talked to him and took care of him.

Growing in Knowing God
A series of message by John Hutchinson
What is eternal life? Is it just going to heaven when you die? This is a simplistic head knowledge of "eternal life" if I just think that eternal life is securing a place in heaven and escaping the wrath of God in hell. Eternal life is far more than that. It is knowing the Lord intimately, it is walking with the Lord each day of my life, it is talking to Him and loving Him, it is embracing His Holy Word and meditating day and night, it is listening to Him as I dwell in His Word. It is a changed life. It is an abundant life in the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 17:3 "and this is eternal life, that they know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
Study His Word - it is a lifelong journey in knowing God.
I learned from the messages that there are different levels of knowing God
1. Awareness level
- I know who Mr Lee Kwan Yew is, but I don't know him personally.
- even the demons know God and they tremble! (James 2:19)
2. Acquaintance level
- just like the thief on the cross who asked the Lord to remember him when he die. But that was all that the thief knew of the Lord.
3. Activity level
- Getting to know God even further. It is studying His Word and praying and conversing with Him.
4. Allowance level
- Such closeness in friendship. Just as a friend allows another to know him better, are you at that level with the Lord?
- Abraham was known as God's friend.
- One goal: in pleasing Him (Col 1:9-10 ".. we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.")
We were rebels, spiritually blind, yet God saved us through His grace and allows us to draw near to Him.
Verses to keep in memory:
Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boast boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord."

2nd Wedding Anniversary
Looking at my husband and my son, I know I've been richly blessed by God. My husband has been my pillar of strength and support, my joy and most intimate companion. It is no wonder the Lord has commanded in 2 Cor 6:14-15 :
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
Thank God for working this verse in my heart when I was still a youth. Thank God for His grace in our lives. Thank God for providing me a spiritual leader in my family. Thank God that Christ is the head of my husband.
Eph 5:22-24 "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."
THE day actually slipped my mind. Last week I was busy planning what to do on that day (I would go to my parents' place with Yongren on mondays). As my mum and I were busy discussing on what time to do this and that, having dinner etc, Mingyong suddenly said in a firm voice "Dear, don't you remember what day is next monday?". Then it dawned on me.. It's our wedding anniversary! I was so embarrassed!
Mingyong had already pre-arranged for Yongren to be at his mum's place so that we can be free the whole afternoon. Out of the blue, we decided to go to the night safari too! So after seeing Yongren again in the evening, we set off to the singapore zoo night safari.
I've drawn the route we took in blue.
Finally we went back to my in-laws place to pick Yongren up. And it was home-sweet-home....

Happy Mothers' Day!
My first mothers' day! It was funny getting wishes from the older mothers in church... actually very heartwarming. The best gift was when little Yongren smiled at me in the morning as we went to church. It's as if he's wishing me "Happy Mothers' Day!"
Praise God for this gift :)

A fun-filled day!
It was a fun-filled day! In the morning, we went to the Upper Pierce Reservoir for our church outing, The weather was sunny and the air was so fresh to breathe! While my hubby excitedly ran off to join in the games and soccer, I sat contentedly in the shade and chit chat with friends. After lunch, we headed back home to take a rest.
In the afternoon, we had visitors from Ming Yong's secondary school friends and their partners. We saw Eugene's son too! How he had grown. Lazing and catching up with each other, time passed by very quickly...
Soon, the sun was setting. Daniel, Joann, Ming Yong, Yongren and I set off to Allan and Karen's house. It was Benaiah's first birthday! Picking up Audrie along the way, we headed happily to their place.
Ahh.. if only days like this could happen more often. Of course we were quite exhausted when we reached home. Yongren and my hubby slept very soundly through the night.

Four generations! What a happy day as we celebrate my grandfather's 84th birthday. (My yeye was born in 1922). I was really very happy that day bringing Yongren out to the dinner and seeing the excitement and happiness on my family's faces as they carried him. As you can see, he was sound asleep in the arms of his daddy.

Full month celebration of Yongren
The number 14 sure is special this year. 14 March was his birthday. 14 April is Good Friday. 14 May will be mother's day.
Well, this day marks the day little Yongren is one month old! It's a wonder how fast time flies, and amazing how fast he grows. We brought him to church this morning for good friday service and quickly came back home for his full month celebration with our relatives.

10 days since delivery
It has been that many days since the birth of the little one. It's truely a joy to see him grow in small tiny ways. Like seeing him smile for the first time (when he was dreaming), opening both his little eyes and looking at things near him. His feeding time has also been more settled for now and he thirst for milk every 2 to 3 hours quite regularly. It brings to my mind what the Bible says as I look at my son:
1 Peter 2:1-3 (in context)
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
I have tasted that the Lord is truely gracious. His grace is sufficient each day. He desires that we desire the pure milk of the word as a newborn babe (really thirsting for milk!) that we may grow, and put aside all that is written above.

The first few days of Yongren's life
No words can describe how I felt throughout the first 6 days of Yongren's life. From the day he was borned, every day, every hour, every minute, what I feel and go through was like a roller coster. Up and down! Happy, sad, angry, helplessness, frustration, confused, discouraged, encouraged, pain, exhausted, elated, joy, comforted, anxious.. running out of vocabulary. Suddenly it's like drawing out every verse I can remember to depend on God's promises!
Too personal to write down in details, I shall pen them in my heart.
First family photo:
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all thine ways and He shall direct thy path."
Something I must say: "My hubby's the best!"

"Lord, I need You"
I attended the "Lord, I need You" woman's seminar by Mrs Debi Pryde on Friday night and the whole of Saturday.
Just to pen down some thoughts (in no particular order and no exact flow cos the things covered were just so much!):
Lord I need You in all aspects of my life:
(This verse below was not covered by Mrs Pryde, but was always on my mind these 2 weeks as it was the memory verse taught to my Sunday School children)
Running this Christian race - "let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is now sat at the right hand of the throne of God."
An application of claiming God's promises on forgiveness:
This verse is super comforting, but it must be applied understanding God's way from the Bible. And when applied, how wonderful it is to claim upon God's promises!
God's promises: "For Thou, Lord art good, and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that called upon Thee" Psalm 86:5
God's simple requirement from me: "He that covers his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy." Proverbs 28:3
Anger: Sometimes we get angry because of our own pride and self-will. Sometimes we get angry because things don't go our way. God wants us to trust in Him. I remembered recently my car's battery suddenly became flat when my hubby and I were going off for dinner. And I became upset and angry (though its nobody's fault) thinking of the inconvenience it'll cost me - can't drive to school the next day, have to tow or call nissan, not in the mood for doing extra. So pouting and in silent anger, my hubby just said one simple thing: "why are you angry?". And he told me that there's nothing to be angry about. He'll call nissan the next day, he'll handle the situation. All he asked me to do was to call my colleague to give me a lift (he knows I can call mel). And he said that it's good that the car showed problems at that time and not any other time - it's good that it happened before I gave birth. God's has a purpose for all things, and all things happen for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. So trust in Him!
" We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,
And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done."
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."
God wants me and hubby to tell our child of His wonderful works that He has done in our lives, the praises of the Lord, to love the Lord with all our heart and soul and strength, and all the above. May the Lord help us to be good parents who will love the Lord deeply and walk by faith in all things, that we will do so not for men to see, but that our child will know the Lord himself and place his faith in Him. I remember one thing Mrs Pryde said- to give your children to God. Don't try to keep them for yourself. Start the day they are born.

Baby's scan: 37 weeks. I've reached FULL TERM! Little Yongren is ready to come out any time now, or he may continue to enjoy himself in the womb till the due date! Estimated weight: 2.9 to 3 kg. Dr Tan also measured the amount of amniotic fluid in the sac. So far so good. Thank God for the growth of the baby. As for me, my feet, ankles and legs are swelling, especially after a whole day of teaching. It hurts to walk. I'm also feeling contractions more frequently at nights. Sometimes in school, the contractions also come on and off. Yongren is also getting lower and lower. All these are preterm labour signs. I just wonder if he's coming out this week, or next week, or the week after. So uncertain. But I shall trust in God's timing :)

Baby's scan: 35 weeks. Little Yongren has grown again! Dr Tan did an estimate of his weight to be 2.7 kg. I'm feeling the strain of carrying him - back aches, very tired, difficulty sleeping. Despite all these, there's this joy as hubby and I look forward to the day we can feel him in our arms and see his tiny face.

Baby's scan: 33 weeks. Little Yongren has grown twice as heavy as the previous visit! Dr Tan did an estimate of his weight to be 2.4 kg. He is really growing, no wonder people call this last lap the growth spurt!
A whole chunk of journals from end Jan to Feb has been erased! Sigh. I'm too lazy to rewrite and recollect the dates, so I'll just put in some photos of the chinese new year visits and baby updates.
Steamboat with Sharon and Benedict at my place. What a spread and what a feast!
Visits from my first batch of graduating students. It was great seeing all of them! How they have really grown. Those in JC has just finished their A levels. Those in Poly are already going to finish their 2nd year. Some of the guys have already entered army.
Visits from another batch of students. I had a good time catching up and chatting with them.

Baby's scan: 28 weeks. Little Yongren has grown! Dr Tan did an estimate of his weight by measuring the size of his body. He is estimated to be 1.2 kg, which is normal. The baby is growing well, and he has been moving about quite often too. However his kicking is very gentle, not aggressive... yet.
The scan shows his upper body and head.

New Year Gathering with Old friends
A day we've been looking towards to! The four old scgs girls with their respective halves gathered at Grace's place for potluck, gift exchange and games! I had a wonderful time catching up, playing, relaxing. Mad and Seb went to Europe recently and showed us lots of pictures (wow!). We also went crazy playing "The Pit" and "Bonanza" (the bean game).
We have known each other for more than ten years already, from geeky teens to fashionable youths, from dr martins to heels, from no boyfriend to having steads or husbands, we have really grown up together. Looking towards to the rest of the years ahead!
Grace also took a photo of pregnant me with hubby.
