Watchnight service, a night of thanksgiving

There was a sharing that night during the Ladies Fellowship by Sister Diana on the topic "Blest to bless", and I remember she gave a message on a heart of thanksgiving. To record it down for me to remember, the passage was on Luke 17:11-19

On the way to Jeruselem he (Jesus) was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." When he saw them he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" And he said to him, "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

Looking back at 2005, I do have many things to thank God for:

For the west side cell group
Through the weekly meetings of fellowship over dinner, bible study and praying for one another, we have built friendship that's meaningful and a blessing to my husband and I. Especially thank God for Allan and Karen for their faithfulness in opening their house and always preparing dinner despite having 2 other mouths to feed. For Yaohe in encouraging the small group always to go on despite good or poor turnout. For Kim and his mother for the wonderful dinner. For all the guys in preparing the lesson for Bible study. Each one in the cell group has really been a blessing to us. Through the cell group ministry, my friend Audrie has also come to know our church and heard God's word, testimonies. Through many of the prayers, she has come to follow Christ. Praise God!

For my family and family-in-law
Throughout the year, my mom has always brought food over to my house for dinner on Mon and Tue nights. Without passing any judgement, she listened sympathetically to my woes (haha) and difficulties at work. My dad organising family dinners with my grandparents, my brother and I. This task is really not that easy considering wedding dinners here and there, and other weekend things that arose. My mother-in-law also cooks dinner at times, and she also prepares bird's nest for me! Ben's sister has also cooked some very nutritious food for me.

In regard of my work
This year was one of the toughest year I've ever gone through in my work place. Consistently throughout the year, I've faced challenges and difficulties with students, parents of students, work responsibilities and so on. Teaching 6 graduating classes (Express and NT) was tedious and very heavy. Being 3NT form teacher also comes with daily doses of happenings and misbehaviour. On top of that, committee duties, speech day, competitions, cca, lesson preparation, marking, admin work, the list just goes on. If not for the Lord's providence, I think I would have had an even tougher time, but God knows what I need even before I asked Him. In the middle of the year, I had a colleague friend who asked me if I would like to be her prayer buddy.  Praying twice a week regularly and talking to her was such a spiritual refresher for me. It kept my focus on the Lord especially when some days were really so tiring. For close friends sitting around me, my lunching buddy, flower friend, and motherly figure. Also for my friend who trusted in the Lord this year - my car companion who touched and encouraged my heart with how God has been working in her life. They all made a difference. It was also through the fellowship and prayers of my cell group that sustained me in my work.

For my husband
For his love, support and always trying to make me "angry" with his jokes and nonsense. Of course I also end up laughing. This year was also a year of transition and uncertainty for him, moving from his job to one of self-employment. We decided to walk by faith in the Lord, especially when a new and unplanned blessing suddenly came along - a baby due in March 2006! I really thank God for my husband because he is everything to me: my hand holder, my shoulder to lean on, my spiritual leader, my lover, my "scolder" when I'm wrong (or correct), my tv companion, my dish washer, my house mover, my driver, my carry heavy stuff man, my ...

Little Yongren
This was totally out of the blue and came as a surprise! My parents were very happy, I'm sure it's answers to their prayers. The beginning months were physically difficult for me as I fell sick and experience morning sickness and loss of appetite. But after that, the symptoms just went away and I became better. The exciting part was looking at the scans and seeing God's miracle of growth in the womb. I think God made pregnancy a nine months journey also to prepare the parents for what's to come. Anyway, we have named our son Yong Ren (God's mercy never come to an end). This is in light of our wedding theme: Lamentations 3:22-23, Great is God's faithfulness.

These are the main things I want to record down so that when I look back, I can remember these precious things God has provided in my life.

May the Lord find us faithful.

What is Life About? (Day 2)

The final day of the Christmas Musical, I can still remember the joy and excitment that surrounds the BFC people backstage: crew, logistics, choir, make up artists, sound and lighting, etc.

Praise and thank God for the musical, for all who came, for the gospel preached, for pastor, for all who served. And I was so happy to see Cecilia and Grace grinning back at me from their seats! Scanning across, I saw Audrie too!

Going through the songs was a gentle reminder to me of God's grace in my life. For I was lost in sin, and Jesus Christ came to die on the cross for me, that He rose again on the third day, having victory over death and sin! What is life about? Indeed this is a question that everyone of us must come to terms with.

Life is all about my Saviour,
Jesus Christ who died for me
Now I feel the peace within me,
His love has set me free
This is life that He gives so freely
I will embrace it for the truth has set me free
See what Christ has done for me, on that day at Calvary
Over death He had the victory!
'Tis His blood, that He shed so freely
I will embrace it, from my sin He set me free!
O what love He gave to me on that cross at Calvary
Over sin I have the victory!
The victory!

What is Life About? (Day 1)

I was particularly happy when my students turned up this day: Yan Zhen, Shi Ting, Evva, Mariani, Sylisa, Firdaus, Yan Hong, Zhi Peng, Hock Chye, Kiang Jeng from my form class this year.
And what a pleasant surprise that Linda (from my last year form class) and her friend was able to come too! I was indeed very happy to see all of you and catch up with you all.
For what profit is it to a man
if he gains the whole world,
and loses his own soul?
Or what will a man give
in exchange for his soul?

Youth Camp, Beholding Christ

One of the happiest period of time spent during the school holidays. Planning the games with the games committee was such a refreshing and funny experience! It's really different working with different people, and I was really enjoyed serving with my hubby and the team this year. Adrian, Pui Shung, Kim, my husband, Dawn, Dency. At the same time, being in fellowship with the youth committee and serving with them was heartwarming and a blessing to me.

Another one of my main concerns was also the food. A few hiccups with the food quality and menu, but thank God that everything turned out well. Everyone had a portion to eat and leftovers were kept to a minimum. It helps being merticulous! The fruits prepared each meal by various aunties and uncles were wonderful too! Of course not forgetting the supper! Physical food is important, but much more the spiritual food.

During the week, I moved about so much that I didn't notice or feel baby moving. When Friday came and I finally could sleep like a pig, baby starting to become active!

Meeting up with old friends

I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of all of us!

It was a long awaited dinner with my old secondary school friends and meeting up has never been sweeter. Grace was finally back from Australia (but she'll fly back again to finish her masters), Cecilia is still the same - witty, funny and talkative, Madshen also looks the same, just a little tired from her D&D planning. As for me, I've added weight to my tummy area and looked very pregnant. We had a great time simply because we missed each other and were so glad to see one another again!

Dinner at the newly located Newton Circles Hawker Centre, we digged into local delights such as char kway teow, hokkien mee, oysters with eggs, stingray and satay. Of course we kept our oily meal healthy by drinking lots of fruit juices and had our 2 servings of green vegetables. (Ha!)

Can't wait to meet up again! The next time will be 2 Jan.

Baby's Update
Fifth scan: 20 weeks

This was the first screening done at the ADC, where the doctor checked the heart, kidneys, head diameter, nose, bone length of arm and leg etc. We couldn't see all the fingers as baby had his hands clinched. But we saw the feet and toes, very cute! The doctor also said that baby is a boy. We are going to have a baby boy!

Our hearts are grateful to God for keeping the baby in good health, my blood flow was normal and blood count was good. In the midst of work, tiredness, problems faced, there are countless times when I failed to trust in God and started complaining. Then I remember that I must keep my eyes on Christ and things fall into the right places. Thank God for my dear husband who loves me and makes me happy. Thank God for my mum bringing dinner for me, pa for his constant prayers, my mum-in-law for cooking dinner, sharon for her special menus, edna for cooking barley and soups, and the care and concerns of my dear brother, rachel, father-in-law, benedict, benson and my grandparents. Thank God also for good friends too, who regularly reminds me to eat well, leave food on my table, etc.

All good things come from God, and His mercy is new every morning! God has been extending His hand of grace even to those who rejects Him,  but there will come a day when we will stand before Him in judgement. Give your heart to Jesus Christ and He will guide you through your life. "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Did a study on Solomon (we did think quite seriously about this name, but... )

Anyway, from 1 Kings 3

vs 3 "Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at high places."

vs 5 "At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said,"Ask what I shall give you."

vs 9 "Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?"

vs 10 "It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this."

The sad part is that later on, his wives turned away his heart after other gods and his heart was not wholly true to the LORD his God.

Baby's Update
Fourth scan: 17 weeks, size unknown

EB and I went for our baby's scan and the baby was active! Rotating around (of course not at a fast speed.) Very amusing. However, baby was not cooperating to stay still for a nice picture and we were also not able to tell baby's gender yet. Hopefully we can know in the next visit which is just 3 weeks away. Anyway, this is the best picture Dr Tan took. I can see the position of the eye sockets and the spine. Praise God for His creation! It's a wonder.

Pa's and Uncle's Birthday

Celebrated my pa's and uncle's birthday at Marina Mandarin Hotel - Peach Blossom Restaurant for dinner!
Dinner with my parents and grandparents is a regular thing. Something that my pa has instilled in the family since I as young. We had a feast! Food was good! We were talking, chatting, listening, catching up with one another... all part of what we call - FAMILY.

Photos to be uploaded soon... once I get it from my brother.

Baby's Update
Third scan: 13 weeks, 7.4 cm
Sleeping baby woke up.

We were laughing when the baby woke up and kicked the leg and moved hands.
Did a search on "womb"

Job 31:15
Did not He who made me in the  womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb ?
Psalm 127:3
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 139:13
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
Isaiah 44:24
[ Judah Will Be Restored ] Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: “ I am the LORD, who makes all things,Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;
Jeremiah 1:5
“ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Galatians 1:15
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me through His grace,

Sunday School Outing

I had such a fun time with all of you girls. I think you all were fabulous! Running, walking, doing your best at all stations, no grumbling except for whining at the water bombs. I am glad you all made it for the outing, and I remember Christine almost could not make it due to transportation. Thank God for the great weather, holding back the rain until the activity was over. I thank God because each of you have been faithfully attending church. The Lord wants us to really know Him and grow in His grace and knowledge. May the Lord find us faithful!

Remembering Teachers' Day

A wonderful dinner at Conrad Centennial Hotel on Wed night planned by my school's SWC. Angie and Audrey who picked such a wonderful venue and many unseen hands who decorated the place before the teachers arrived. Of course Mr Ho Ho Ho was his usual self as an mc, he was hilarious. A simple but meaningful time we spent blowing bubbles, remembering nursery rhymes, eating, chatting.

Thursday was a wonderful break.
Friday was Teachers' Day Celebration in school.
4N1 was just so sweet. The amount of love and appreciation I received from them was just heartwarming. The cards, presents, hugs, they just made the day so special for me.
How can I not say anything about my form class 3N1? This year has been a difficult and challenging year with you all, yet not once did I walk away from taking care of the matters of the class. As your teachers take care of you, it's time to step up and take care of your teachers and each other too. It was awful ending the day doing a spot check and detaining all of you. In spite of all these, the party you planned for your teachers has not gone to waste. Thanks for the effort of those who prepared the party- Hidayu, Evva, HuiTing, Syalisa.. cold food but a warm time.
The return of the seniors: 4E5 (and bits of 4E4)
What a memory you all brought me that day, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson at their rightful places. And all the rest of the "monkeys" around - colourblind one, irritating one, sleeping beauty one, blur one, pinnochio one ...
The super seniors: when you all pulled up your chairs around one small table, it was such a cosy and "coffee-bean" time to catch up with each other. We just lacked coffee.
And the others who came but we didn't manage to take any photos, seeing all of you back shines an obvious message to me: "I remember my school, my teachers, my friends and I came." Though not many words are exchanged, the smiles, the handshakes, the hugs, the little chats are all a part of telling each other "I remember you; I'm happy to see you; I wish you well".

Baby's Update
Second Scan: 9.5 weeks, 2.8 cm.
My first scan only showed 2 dots. From this scan, we could really see the shape of the baby forming, with the head on the right side!

First Wedding Anniversary
Lamentations 3:22-23
"Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
      Because His compassions fail not.
       They are new every morning;
      Great is Your faithfulness."
While the memory was still fresh as the colours above, this day was one year ago.
My husband has been very supportive, patient and my pillar in the marriage. I thank God for my husband. Looking back at the time we spoke our wedding vows to each other in front of all who witnessed and most importantly to our God:
A poem (present from Ladies Fellowship)
I Married My Best Friend
I married my best friend,
Our bond complete, it hath no end,
We share one soul, we share one heart,
A perfect time - a perfect start.
With these rings we share together,
Love so close to last forever,
That special day - two special hearts,
Let nothing keep this love apart.
Marriage is not always a bed of roses. There will times of trials, difficulties, and sometimes even conflicts. I believe God has the perfect plan for us imperfect people. As the Bible teaches:
Ephesians 5:22,28
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. ...
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her... "

raw egg with chili                                raw egg with durian
We are so glad to be a part of your wedding, to celebrate this joyous occasion with you both! We enjoyed working on your montage alot. So signing off: Creative director (my hubby) and Producer (me).

In memory of Bibi
My pet hamster passed away on 17 Apr 2005 in the afternoon.

Recollection of March 2005
March, my favourite month. (I was born in this month)

Actually this month is crazy. Yup, with endless work, I am just so glad for the march holidays that acts as a buffer to catch my breath and catch up with sleep and ... more work. But many happy things happened this month too! Counting my blessings:

One. My friends at work surprised me with a chocolate cake (my favourite!) and a huge present! This happened on the friday before the march holidays. Really was very touched and happy.

Two. Hubby surprised me by taking leave on my birthday! Both of us just dropped our work aside and went out together. Finally dine at HV for dinner. Wished for more days like that.

Three. Good friday and resurrection sunday. Remember the death of my Lord Jesus Christ and His resurrection. That He died on the cross for my sins, and He rose again the third day, having victory over death. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". To all my dear friends, will you believe in Him?

Four. Got a new car. (actually coming on 1 April). Thank God for guiding both of us in deciding on the purchase of this new car. Said goodbye to Mivec on monday night... it was a present my dad bought for me on my 21st birthday.

Five. With the loss of Mivec, God took care of transport to and fro. So glad and grateful that Mel was able to pick me up along the way to school. And today Angie and David went out of the way to send me home.

Although this month had been really tiring and stressful, I thank God for my husband, family and the friends He has brought into my life. Great is Thy faithfulness.

Encountering God

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up." James 4:8-10

It has been two weeks of camps. What a wonderful way to spend my time.. for the Lord!

Many many thanksgiving items and answered prayers. Truly to taste and see that the Lord is good. Here's my group, by the way:

Most of all, I'm grateful to the Lord for saving my ex-student, eugene. Very encouraged by those who have spoken to him and made friends with him. Not forgetting all those who have shared on the last night:  Tan Yi Xuan, Shaun, Eugene, Benji, Darren, Shirley, Sandra, Joey. Though not all shared, I'm sure our Lord God has spoken to many of our hearts during the camp. So continue thou in the things we have learned, and may the Lord find us faithful.

A new life verse for the next year:
"that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering, being conformed to His death." Philippians 3:10
